Selfish Longing

a bit of selfish pity...

Selfish Longing

I so long for another in this life,

Who truly “gets” who I am.

For contact that feels like love itself,

One who touches out of love, not duty.

Whose fingers feel like desire, rather than want,

With no selfish agenda lying in wait.

I long not to have to be so strong,

I am weary from the load of day after day

My shoulders are weakening, my back no longer straight,

I trudge along-still taking care.

And tears often fall,

With no real rhyme or reason.

They land on my solitary pillow,

And dry with no one to know.

great down to earth touching verse Karen, now we know. I started working when I was about 10 years old. I feel you about being tired of the struggle, keep your chin up and your head will follow. hugs

Very sad, i have been there, it is good that you expressed this here so well, because you probably help others feeling the same-I hated always having to be the strong one, it does get tiring.

Karen, the honesty in this poem reminds me of times in my own life when I wondered if life would change for the better. It always did even if the outcome was not one I would necessarily have liked. My Grandmother had a saying 'it is better to be alone than to be badly accompanied.' That is a literal translation of her Spanish of 'mejor estar sola que mal acompianado.' Stay positive and strong.

God bless you. Kathy

It take much courage to write as you have here, and there is nothing selfish about it. I applaud you for your honesty and can relate to what you say, having been there. Keep hoping and keep writing, your superb poetry!

Very sad and heart breaking...someday when you stop seeking, when you least expect, HE will put that one in your path...but remember no one will ever really get us except God himself. That is why your relationship with HIm is more precious

Wish I knew how to ride a horse...then I would say lets go for a long ride..atop the hills and scream it out to the world.....and laugh our asses off after that for still believing in miracles!!

Bless you, Karen. And I don't see what's so selfish about this. Many of us can identify, I'm sure, and you speak for everyone to some extent. To find "that other" whom your heart seeks seems a natural quest for those who, for whatever reason, find themselves feeling they have walked a solitary path through life. Even those of us seemingly "matched" can experience this aloneness. And when things have been tough, or life has just caught up with you or been compounded over many years, then these feelings can become overpowering and intense. Thank you for sharing this. It's a kind of blood-letting that can bring relief to others as well as to yourself. We can share your sense of "alone". TY Kate xx

Though you may consider it selfish, I think it's the most natural thing to want. Having read some of your stories and poems now, I can see you have a truly loving heart and you really deserve a good love.
It may seem foolish to quote a movie such as the Wizard of Oz, but remember when the "wizard" told the Tinman,
"A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."
You are loved by others, the ones who fall for you when they read your stories and poems, your creations. But, we all understand you need that loving touch, too. I'm sure you'll find it.

Why selfish? I don't think it is selfish to want someone. Who doesn't need someone? It is natural and very normal. Let's see it that way. And we know WHO the great Helper is, don't we? We must ask.

Karen,
I so know how this feels, but for some reason, the Universe has chosen not to send that person to either of us yet. We have more to do in this life, and soon we both will get our chance at love. You are a beautiful soul, do me a favor, when you are feeling that sad at night, don't cry, think of something that makes you smile and say to yourself, now this is how I want to feel all the time. Soon the sadness will be replaced with contentment and peace.
Love your poem,
Peace, love, and light,

Lonliness is not part of the human condition, we are meant to have someone and to share the warmth of the body as well as the feelings of the heart. This poem tugs at the heartstrings of a romantic.

Good writing. You're normal... and lonely. Hell, there are a lot of us, and somehow, perhaps, maybe, we'll find a solution that's not as high priced as gasoline! Hang in there, and keep your pillows fluffed, since you never know. - Bill
