She Needs A Mommy
In her mid-forties and struggling to be well,
Like a little girl, she needs a mommy,
A mommy to make some healing chicken soup,
And then, though she has no appetite, coax her to eat.
She needs a mommy with a gentle touch,
To pull covers to her chin and read to her ‘till she sleeps,
A mommy to lay a cool cloth on her sweaty brow,
Or to tenderly hold her hand, her troubles to ease.
She needs a mommy to be there, a pillar of strength,
Whose shoulder she can weep on and whose spirit engulfs her,
And then when the tears have spent themselves,
She needs a mommy who helps her to keep keeping on.
She needs a mommy, filled with love unconditional,
To tell her of the miracle she has always been.
She needs a mommy, she does, but alas she’s without,
So all we who love her, will each do our part.

Oh, this one reaches in and gives the heart a squeeze: painfully penned sadness. You and your sissy are in my prayers. I'm 49 and still wish I had my mother .....
