Work
Physical, sweat producing, muscle aching, work,
Dawn to dusk, old fashioned, heart pounding, work.
Satisfaction at the end of the day, work,
Falling asleep when head hits the pillow, tired.
The horses are safe, barbed wire is gone,
A hundred new posts now in the ground,
New fencing is stapled and tight.
And the hundred-year-old fencing is away to the dump.
Every muscle in my body is aching,
Band aids adorn several fingers,
And a purple thumb shows,
A missed hit of the hammer.
As I sit on the steps looking over the pasture,
My satisfaction in the job I have finished,
Eases the aches and puts a smile on my face.
