Not a Rose

A flower, yes indeed she is,

But, no, not a rose with its delicate petals,

For the presence of thorns,

Makes no sense to this child.

She is a daisy,

Not a Shasta, big and strong,

But a tiny little one,

Close to the ground and wild.

She’s a little girl with unkempt hair,

Running wild and close to the earth,

Her face turned upward toward the sun,

Open, like the daisy, to all life’s possibilities.

Excellent write Karen
I rather the Rose for she
Is as beautiful As A Bud bath in
The morning Dew
WAITING TO BE KISSED
A rose by any other name,
Is still a rose......

The child in your poem sounds wonderful, just like a growing child should be; full of life, curiosity, eagerness with the whole world an open door. Great write.

Oh, Karen, this is full of such rich imagery! I can almost see the little girl running with her face turned toward the sun. What a great description.

Oh, Karen! This is beyond wonderful.

Were I able, I would give you ten Arabian Horses -- Wild Mustangs, if you prefer -- and a giant field of year-round wildflowers.

For the joy, luv.

For the joy.

In reading this wonderful poem, I couldn't help but think of my dazzling young great-granddaughter who, too, is "Running wild and close to the earth/Her face turned upward toward the sun/Open, like the daisy, to all life's possibilities."

You certainly captured the heart and spirit of many a young girl with this gem. I loved it!

BEAUTIFUL!!! A Marguerite, or pearl... fresh, pure and open... a lavish string that has has been cut and running free all over the place! A Daisy that can't be chained. I love the meaning of names and metaphors. Just lovely, Karen. xx

This is so sweet and I love the analogy you share...This girl sounds like a free spirit and should run wild and free!

Great work, love your words.
Much peace, love, and light,

A wild daisy, running wild and close to the earth - sounds wonderful to me. (Probably because I was a wild child, myself.) And I've always thought that a little Wild is Good!
