This Snow

In five hours, a foot of snow fell,

On late February ground,

Where the last of the winter snow had melted.

The stillness of the downfall was breathtaking,

The beauty surreal and out of place,

It was almost spring for heaven’s sake!

It is something to talk about, this snow,

A conversation starter for retired men,

Over morning cups of coffee at the local café.

An excuse for the ladies to chat,

Sharing gossip amid favorite recipes for stew,

All speak of other years, other memorable storms.

And the children, well, they clamor for mittens and hats,

Make happy snowmen, go sledding and such,

And beg for marshmallows,

In their waiting cups of rich hot chocolate.

What a great picture! I liked the poem . You are right , snow is something to defiinately talk about . I have lived in Florida so long , that I often forget what it was like to see and live through the long cold winters. Thats one big reason we moved here...M

It is something to talk about, this snow

It certainly is. We just had the snowiest February on record here, and today, they say we may get some more.

Karen, Had the same thing happen in Omaha. Birds chirping and snow had all melted! Ground hog even saw his shadow so we were supposed to get an early spring. Oh well, I can snuggle with my little boy in front of a fire drinking hot cocoa just a little bit longer. Take care, :)

Very timely, Karen, we got 15" ourselves. Very beautiful. Yesterday we had five kids visit, and for the first time since we've lived here, there's a snowman in the yard. Terry
