The smell of autumn is in the air,
as colorful leaves fly here and there.
They flow in streams like kayaks,
creating a fancy to trace their tracks.
Corn stalks once standing proud and tall,
lie in silo's waiting a cow's hungry bawl.
Large and small pumpkins dot the patch,
wait to be carved into lanterns to flicker and dance.
Trees leave behind their bushy green skirts,
as they stand naked needing pants and a shirt,
Scents of applesauce and cider bubble in tubs,
later to be place in colorful jars and jugs.
Witches and ghosts sneak to and fro,
ask for treats and doing tricks as they go.
Devils jump out to yell...boo!
Children scatter crying, boggieman, boogie...shoo!
Houses decorated in black cats and spider webs,
a gooey black spider lands on my head.
Autumn is special for most people I know,
it tells us we're not far from a good snow.
The squash of dried leaves beneath my feet,
reverberating sounds like music...rich and deep,
A wild turkey gobbler struts across the way,
makes me happy to enjoy this autumn day.
Beautifully done... Jen
