Sheer Misery

Wriggling like bait in the passenger seat...

I glance over to see if Jake's watching me,
wouldn't dare ask him to stop.
Pinch my fingers onto my jeans zipper
like it's protecting me from a dribble.
We hit a bump in the road,
the puffy sends a twinge up my spine...
I'm at a bursting point.

I bite my knuckles; strain a smile,
visualize water seeping out my tear ducts,
releasing the pain of my swollen vessel.
Cross my legs, pat a foot; squeeze the seal,
afraid the lid will blow loose and spring a leak.
Look at Jake and whisper, "Ah, err, err...stop the car...
ah, err...before we need to fetch a rubber duckie.

Been there done that, many days within my classroom. First grade teachers don't have aides, and you can't very well leave twenty five six year olds alone! Did that once, for three minutes to go to the restroom, and when I returned three were in the floor duking it out! So after that mess, I too have often thought that we may need a rubber duckie before my next break, which by the way are few and far between on certain days...great write, loved it! Very humorous...

Reminds me of my wife. I only got this feeling once when a total stranger gave us a tour on a mountainin Switzerland. All I could see were trees and not a resting place in sight. Finally I thought a tree would do. Guess what, there were small huts built for the purpose and I did not know what they were. Victor

why does it always get worse in the car...is it the bumps or the certainty that you're gonna have to request a stop

I love the imagery of the first line Barbara.

Oh this one is rich. I'm busting a gut here! Men have the advantage you know, when they hafta pee they can just open the window or fill a coke bottle, or a can. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Believe me, when I traveled with music I did it that way many times.

You rock ...
