My first inklings come in early spring,
too many nights of no-shows
and his dinner fed to the dogs.
Last minute fishing trips...
knowing I'll stay home.
Hankerchief with lipstick smears
found in his tackle box,
a woman's bathing suit tucked under the bow.
Our time's like wind-up dolls,
movement in motions with daydreaming emotions.
My nights alone, a walk on a stoney road
into a maze with no way out,
with eyes wide as an owl's.
The clock gets louder and louder,
and the barking dog sharper.
I wait for the alarm to buzz,
arouse my dizzy thoughts,
putting me back on track.
He offer me no clue,
no mercy, no reason for slipping away,
leaving me caught in his trap.
I hold the liquid and fight
the demons raging within,
hope It'll give me the courage
to wish him well with his new catch.
Life is filled with heart-wrenching challenges dear Barbara.
You have eloquently described one of the worse that can befall us. Funny how sinners can never entirely clean up their trail. They always leave behind clues as to their dastardly deeds that others invariably find.
A painful write, Barbara, but release you must. Time will dull the pain and God will light the way to a better, brighter tomorrow. Perhaps then you will be able to wish him, whose judgement was poor, good riddance! Be strong, my friend!
God Bless
Love, Lena
