Remove My Thorns

Don't let me be a thorn...

Don't let me be a thorn...
pricking those around me,
let my bushes be full of bloom,
emitting and magnifying colorful radiances,
touching those who bear burdens and heartaches.

Enhance my soul and mind to focus...
don't allow my demands to weaken my pleas.
Sanction me to assist without recognition or reward,
allow me not to weary in my well doing,
knowing faith in You brings many miracles.

Help me to be loving and candid to everyone,
don't allow the thorns to embed and harden my soul.
Strengthen my being to seek those in hardship,
before they strangle by their own fate.
Lead me to draw them out of the darkness into Your light.

Grant me the skill to draw out my soul...
to the needy, reach out to the afflicted, orphans,
and those who've been abused in life...
left to feel unloved and abused for living,
robbing them of a right to existence.

God, don't let me be a thorn...
pricking those around me,
allow my vine to sustain and grow,
giving hugs, friendship, and attention...
permit my creeping plant to be healthy and alert.

Keep my plant nourished and watered...
don't allow it to become as hay in the fields.
Prevent me not to overlook Your graciousness,
thanking You before I commence to ask.
God, don't let me be a thorn...
but a blossom full of life to aid others.

Psalm 84:11; Isaiah 58:10; Matthew 5:7

A beautiful write, one which bestows a powerful and wise message. For there are many thorns along this way that inflict much pain and torment in others, as they never realize just how much their sharp thorns hurt when they penetrate the flesh and the feelings of others. You are far from a thorn my friend, your compassion shines through in your writing and reviews. Thorns are usually very self absorbed and full of heartache themselves! A profound write indeed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

We're always asking God to give us something or do something for us, but in your poem you are asking him to help you become a servant and friend to others. What a wonderful, loving, and generous spirit you have. Your poem is wonderfully inapirational.

Oh Barbara this went straight to my heart, I have often prayed that I would never be a thorn to anyone, I have thrived on helping others even if it is just a hug to help take away their pain. Thank you for your lovely words.

This is the path to Sainthood. Reminds me of Saint Francis of Assisi and how he turned his life around.
