Shredding The Hunger

No chance to tell him how I felt...

He went away leaving my heart tender,
a desire to touch his lips, experience his love,
be conscious of his gentle embrace,
commence what we sensed in our minds.
We searched each other's eyes...
aspired to explore our keen feelings.

Our union...forbidden,
by parents living across the tracks.
My family not as rich as his folks,
our dating could not be realized.
Only hello's and smarting smiles,
kept our hearts pitter-patting.

The day he left for college,
I cried all day...the moon bowed to obscurity.
My world came crashing down,
loneliness sat on my doorstep.
Year's passed...I still searched for his face,
a glimpse of a look a like...never him.

No chance to tell him how I felt,
nor him to tell me.
Our attractions brought out yearnings,
he never tempted to cross the line,
left me speculating...
restless, inquisitive, and smarting.

A reunion fetched us together...
I looked into an empty face,
a stranger without sentiments.
A lump stuck in my throat,
a long-ago affection withered,
leaving me breathless and content...
I shredded a hunger of times past.

A beautiful and yet sad story of a love that should have been. Thank you for sharing, Barbara your words are always what we expect, wonderful.

I loved your poem-story. You've shown the depths of young emotions, the heart-throbbing pain behind tender infatuations. Then suddenly you grow up and everything has changed. "I looked into an empty face...I shredded a hunger of times past." I love it, Barbara!

Extremely well written expression of our fear of showing or telling one another of our affections. You never know how life twists and turns to the conclusions brought on by living in separate paths and choices made. Things change based upon our life environment and those who have stolen or broken our hearts...sometimes there are bad consequences and other times we learn from mistakes or choices made. Beautiful work.

I think we are often held captive by our emotions, and by things that we cannot change - but I guess that's part of being human.

Unrequitted love is the hardest........ Often we make choices which would have been better off making known our true feelings. This one is sorrow but beautiful Barb......

Josie

People change. We are at first separated by social bariers, and when these could be surmounted we find people change for the worse. Victor

It's a;most inhumane the way we change so violently sometimes. Like watching a movie but there is no intermission, no reviews and sequel. This was very sad, but I found myself nodding in recognition to the whole process. Very well done.
