The years fleeting...
a childhood of long-ago,
full of energy and wanting to explore,
wandering from end to end in life's pathway,
questioning life and it's why's and if's.
Loves, friends, enemies, and heartaches,
interweaving throughout my soul and mind.
Struggles, hurts, turmoils, tribulations,
aspiring to reach the pinnacle.
Love of life and a yearning to be someone,
leaving me drained and burnt out.
No time for piety-parties...
time to work not to play,
a face among a crowd of automatons.
Love captures my heart...
seals it with passions, aspirations, cravings,
a hunger to be together without end.
A marriage brings blissful events,
continual love, stronger than a whirlwind,
respect, happiness, and contentment...
a boy, a girl, and grandchildren.
It's been years...two senior folks,
demands to understand the loss of time...
holding onto each others memories,
determined not to let a single remembrance fade.
Living and loving like there will be no tomorrow,
enjoying their affections and togetherness,
as we recall the time of our past.
A most beautiful canvas painted with scenes from a fruitful and happy shared life and chosen existance together. Coming into the harvest of its years. What a picture of true togetherness. Thank you for this inspiration. Love, Kate xx
Barbara I have come to realize as I get older, my memories of the past become more important to me. Another beautiful write, thank you for sharing.

Barbara,
This is a wonderful look at life from childhood through the Golden years. As a younger person, I can say that I have always admired your generation and do not feel that my generation is nearly as appreciative, as patient, or as accepting to life changes.
I appreciate the changes, due to years spent living in a small rural community where children had to work in order to exist and in some ways, escape to a better life. I lived 50 miles from the nearest shopping mall and 75 miles from a large town. Our community has two traffic lights, 8 churches, 1 fast food restaurant, and neighbors still helped their neighbors, when times were tough. Suburban children, raised with MP3 players and being spoiled --- having everything handed to them --- cannot begin to fathom the work, the struggles, and the endurance of your generation or the culture of rural America, still today.
Barbara eloquently written, and the reminiscing...throughly enjoyed!
"Living and loving like there will be no tomorrow,
enjoying their affections and togetherness,
as we recall the time of our past."
Ah yes, "holding onto each others memories,
determined not to let a single remembrance fade."
These feeling echo my heart to a T, although I am not a NanNa yet but one day...time has passed quickly as we(myself&husband) reminisce frequently vowing never to let any memories fade holding on to each and every one~it is beautiful!
Smile~sometimes it seems the younger ones forget quicker than the older ones nowadays. Thank you for sharing such a sweet'n tender morsel of this intimate work.

I love this part....Love captures my heart...

Barbara you penned this well.
You write with such passion.
It is always my pleasure to read your poems.
I have wondered, occasionally, what living would be like without memories. Nothing to remember, no pain, no joy, just continually on the edge of times wave moving forward into what the future held.
Your insights into the process of moving forward, in grace, and holding onto, and expressing, what is important is very touching. You write as a wise sage here dear Barbara.
Blessings ...

We life, we procreate, we grow old. We live on our life's laurels. But if they are wonderful memories, what should we ask for more? We will meet in Heaven. I wish you bliss. Victor
You've given us a lovely stroll through those precious moments of your life--love, family, children and growing affections that support a strong and lasting relationship. Well done, my friend. A wonderful read.
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
