A Grand Reunion Is Coming

This is in tribute to my dear brother who passed away in 2001.

I'm still angered,
you were called away too soon...
no time to say our goodbyes.
Our closeness, cemented by blood.
I recall nurturing you,
a tiny boy and not well.
I cuddled you like you were mine,
I'd fight over you in a tic of an eye.

I felt sadness in my heart about your illness.
Your sickness brought a lifeless preschooler...
blue eyes like a brilliant gem,
held tight to mine as I rocked you.
I, your caretaker,
you, my energy, my bliss, my everything.
Not wanting to leave your side,
sensing your dependence on me.

I, a Mother Hen,
watching after your every need,
determined no one would mock or touch...
the frailty of your thin limbs.
In time, you bloomed like a grand rosebush,
full of blossoms, branches strong and firm,
you fought your own battles,
handsome and standing out in every crowd.

Time didn't treat you well:
no pleasure rapped at your door,
depressions brought pain,
alcohol smothered your torments.
I sensed the anguish.
You seeked to find contentment and happiness.
You, thrashed about, losing interest in life,
my soul ached for you...feeling helpless.

As you slept,
an angel took your hand,
lead you to a Heavenly place of gratification,
finding you a place to fit in...
live life without torturous demons.
At the time, I didn't think I could stand it,
I let go of my sad soul,
allowing you to rest,
take a break until our grand reunion.

The strength and power of this love is awe-inspiring and moving to the uttermost, Barbara. Your depth of feeling wells up within your solid form and words and I can feel the heavens arch and ache with you. Here you exemplify what it says in Song of Songs, about love being "as strong as death and as unyielding as the grave" Many waters cannot put out the raging fire of love. It shall never be quenched. But you have wisely sought to harness and rein in the power of its fulfillment until the time of next meeting. And yet, even a taste of the edge of it here is moving. How wonderful to be loved in such a way, be it by husband, mother, sister, child or friend. You must have blossomed him, albeit his season was short. My deepest sympathies and admiration. With love, Kate xx

I let go of my sad soul,
allowing you to rest,

Sometimes, that's all we can do, but your love for your brother shines here, Barbara.

Barbara, what a heart-warming poem and tribute to your brother.
My heart has been touched by these kind words.
We may lose our loved ones temporary but we know we shall spend eternity with them in Heaven.
