A Thief Stole Her Existence

Kisses and hugs like a fresh bunch of flowers...

This poem is about a friend who thought everything was great until...

The days were tiring,
the nights a dread,
what happened to their love...
why did it go dead?

Once a happy couple,
enjoying intimacy and devotion,
love fervent like teenagers
playing tag in motion.

Kisses and hugs like a fresh bunch of flowers,
pleasing and fragrant hour after hour.
No disenchantments rapped at their door,
obsessions stronger than a tornado's power.

A conversion like a thief in the night,
stole their passions and sensations,
leaving them estranged and strangers
like wilted flowers after a blight.

Their smiles walked away...leaving scowls
as souls suffer wounds...desire to heal.
Their hearts impaired beyond repair,
its defense crushed and a foul.

Their empty shells stand alone,
no nucleus, no sensations, betrayed and despondent,
asking what snook in to rob their affections,
trust and believe they'll find their own independence.

A sad account, but very nicely written. You must have felt the pain of your friend to allow you to write such a stirring account of her loss.

When the fires of love die, they leave an empty "home" where the wind of sorrow is free to howl and to moan. That's how your poem made me feel. Very effective, Barbara. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

You've captured it well dear friend, heart breaking but all too often a fact of life for many. It does seem that vows that were once so sacred are often now taken as only words, words that don't mean anything other than that....just words....when I was growing up we did know of divorce as I was from a broken home, my mother raised us without help from anyone but God! We are strong because of her faith, advice, and wisdom...she was an exception to the rule...she made it despite all the odds...Divorce wasn't heard of as often, I think that many stayed in bad situations because of the shame and unbelief of divorce....even though vows are sacred sometimes one has to what they have to do....a great write my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

When one does not share any more what used to interest them both, things tend to shrivel and die. Maybe it's boredom, maybe selfishness. Whatever it's called, it devastates. Great emotional piece.

Barbara it's sad but it happens.
We are only human and not only do we fail
God but we fail one another. Forgiveness
and moving on is the key.
Enjoyed this heartfelt write.
Thanks for sharing.
Love and Hugs..

Barbara,
Sometimes you just grow beyond your relationship..In my case, I was married for 32 years to my high school sweetheart (actually I met in when I was in 8th grade he in 9th!) My spirit was dying, so I had to fly freely, and we are still very good friends till this day...After all he is my children's father and a man that became my longest friend...
May peace, love, and light find you all of your days,
Amber "V"
