Time and detachment took its toll...

Sunshine glints through lace curtains,
gusts sway them back and forth touching my body.
Plumes of dust obscure the roadway in the distance,
haven't see Monty for weeks...on another trip.

I glance to see him standing in the doorway,
white teeth exposes a smirk,
a stubbly beard covers most of his face,
a stranger stands to greet me.

Time and detachment took its toll,
a bitter taste wets my lips,
a scowl on his face rules the moment...
I won't welcome him into my bed,
a wanderer is not worthy of my arms.

My body's grown cold and standoffish...
love and passion idled too long,
no excitements, no yearnings, no sensations,
a poker face don't hide emotions.

There's nothing left to give away...
too many times gone missing...ate all my flames,
stole my attachment, love, senses,
leaving me empty and without a promise.

Nights of lonesomeness, no love, and no spontaneity,
reminds me there's more to life than waiting
for someone who is not ready for a commitment.

Sunshine glints through lace curtains,
gusts sway them back and forth touching my body,
a bunch of vibrant roses cast hues of beauty,
as I wait a second chance at love.

This poem is filled with powerful feelings that show the emptiness of one's life--at times. This poem and others you've written are so indicative of the deep feelings we all experience at one time or another. Well done.

poignant write as to what can happen to ones spirit after long spans of neglect-i found this verse particularly true
There's nothing left to give away...

stole my attachment, love, senses,
leaving me empty and without a promise.

Some people are such dopes! They don't know a good thing until it's gone. Your chance at love will be met with all the wonderfulness that your heart desires.

Barbara,
I can so relate to your words. Yes, waiting doesn't help a relationship in harms, or hinders that connection..I was in a long distance relationship for 1 year, only seeing him on the weekends or every other weekend then it began to be every two weeks, and then I said that was it, I walked away from that relationship and lo and behold I felt a weight lift and I was open to other people in my life...Lesson taken, lesson well learned.
