I surrendered to obstacles blocking our attachment...

This poem was written about a book I've been working on.

I walked away...I couldn't look back,
his face, still an image in my mind.
Heartache sifted...stoled my soul,
took my essence of love forever.

A love I'd never felt before,
I'd searched years to find this passion,
longed for it since a maturing adult,
I'd found my soul mate, lover, friend.

He sauntered in one direction,
neigher one dared to glace back,
knew if we did...it would be without end,
his soul suffered...longing to feel my lips again.

Walking away, the hardest thing in my life,
aware this had to be the ending,
commitments and vows sealed by a gold band,
not making sense how love could sting the bones.

The kindness of his heart stole my spirit,
his kisses singed and quenched my desires.
How could I face tomorrows without him?
I wanted to turn around...run back to his arms.

I surrendered to obstacles blocking our attachment,
hold unto his image...using every ounce of my strength,
never allow anything to take it from me,
forget this life I searched for throughout the years.

Cannot look back...others hearts will be broken,
not right to satisfy my longings to slay others souls.
I closed the door to my yearning nucleus,
took a deep breath and kept walking...
leaving my spirit exposed to a life of hunger.

Wow, Barbara, that last line really packs a whollop. What a painfully rendered piece of love and heartache. So sad, so universal. I'm certain many can relate to your freely expressed emotions. Thanks for sharing so honestly and openly.

Our memories are ours to have and to hold and to have the strength to move on is a challenge in itself. Thank you for sharing barbara.

Surrendering to what is, is one of life's most difficult challenges. To "hunger" is [I believe] what keeps the spirit going.

God bless you. Kathy

I know this emptiness very well. My memories are full to this day. I lost him in Viet Nam. Nothing was the same for me for years and years and today...there's an image in the distance that looks so familiar.

heart wrenching emotions throughout, but some loves are never meant to be,and walking away is best. Hopefully we learn from the experience.

I truly understand this poem, sometimes all you can do is walk away and there is even if there are other choices, but this is the unselfish one, to walk away no matter how awful it hurts. Wonderful write, touches the heart in many ways.
