I wait at the gate for your return...

I wait a the gate for your return
a chill funnels through my essence
it's been years since I last saw you.
I never knew why you went away
woke one morning to find you gone
my heart impelled by a stake.

You were special to me
a child I nurtured and loved for years
I tried to replace the missing one's
guess your hurts were too profound.
A restlessness need for a paternal love
robbed you of feelings for the second best.

Your heart was never with me
it belonged to your flesh and blood
I sought to fill a void of a lost child.
Your make believe stories of a fatherly love
magnified into a real life existence
a desire a tiny heart yearned for daily.

There were "no" replacements accepted
I wait at the gate for your return
hope one day you realize how much I loved you.
You brought something unique into my life
a tender smile, a personality, a precious being
you captured my soul and left me speechless
considering you as being mine to keep forever.

I wait at the gate for your return
happy you've made a connection with your father
there's where your heart and soul belongs
hope one day you'll realize my love for you.
I'll wait at the gate for your return
hoping one day you acknowledge me.

Such a sad story Barbara. It reminds me of some of the reasons I wrote Letting Go, which I am now working to rewrite in a way which tells more of a story and submit it as an article to a publication.

Barbara, this poem touched my heart so. I am an adoptive parent. Unfortunately, the child I adopted was that of my dear baby Brother. He and his wife were tragically killed two months apart. To love and bond and nourcher a child. Sometimes not knowing there heart call inside a path to take them back to their love ones. Believe me, the loss be no reflection of the love and understanding you gave... The child always needs to know why...Someday, you will see him at the gate, for he or she never will forget someone truely loved him or she.
A beautiful poem that touched my heart. I will save this one in my library.

So sad in longing and abiding recognition. Children don't realize the capacities of the heart when they are impulsive and energies fly. This is an aching I know well.
Blessings of love,
Susan

It is a privilege to be touched in such a way. And it truly reminds me of Jesus, and the Father, and Christ's triumphant return through the 8th gate, the Golden Gate, in Jerusalem. Brava!

A beautiful "reaching out" poem with a mother's heart. "I'll wait at the gate..." Isn't that what mother's do--keep watch for when they come home? Well done, Barbara.

Heart wrenching. My own fledgling lost her father at 10 months old. She has but photos and stories to build memories. You are gracious and a beautiful writer. The little ones may fly, but they always, always return to the nest where love waits patient and unconditional.

Barbara,
So many children long to find their birth parents. It is an unexplainable phenomenon. The power to undo rejection is so strong that I believe that is the main reason children want to confront the parents that gave them away. To be abandoned has long lasting affects on children, no matter how well they are loved or raised by their adoptive parents...It is inborn at that point. You are an amazing woman, mother, spiritual leader, he will see the light, and realize just how much he means to you and you to him...Have faith, you will be rewarded...The Universe knows all and will be fair.
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
