You kissed me deep and
now I am dead, too.
So hard to realize
my vampires came at last.
No more Nightmares,
real is plenty of time
for all the
horror to be.
The cold wind, the gliding,
leaves tumbling around our house
like a graveyard.
Now that I know,
you move on,
and I feel
the infection growing,
spreading among my cells.
I am one of you now.
You’ve borrowed my blood,
left me for dead
inside your nest of sticks.
Can I escape?
Or will I be immortal
in the worst way,
questing
through a thousand lifetimes
for her mad conversation,
for his maddening touch?
"No more nightmares" says it all. This poem captures the possibilities of immortality even as a budding vampire thinking of mad conversations and his maddening touch transitions into a different reality. Is immortality as a vampire madness or is it the real fountain of youth--a fountain of blood?
i have written so many poems similar to this one when i was younger. my ex-husband and i were together when i was 14, and for 5 years later. he was always very good at causing me to believe in things i shouldn't. i identify a lot with this poem. thank you for writing it.
