The dark times approach now that the corn has been cut. "The Boys of Summer" are gone in the most final of ways.

Poem Artwork

I belonged to the Corn King.
No pious submission--
Nor rape--
Can erase
His touch.

I wait, remembering,
Still as Death
And as cold.

I am the vessel
He broke
And threw away.

He’ll never return,
But I am
Consecrated.
If not
By his love,
Then--by his use.

All the memories invoked through the experience of emotions, well written...

This poem is powerful. Makes me envision violation deeper than the body. This leaves me wondering.

Juliet,
there is great richness of reflection here, the impossibility of undoing experiences and the memories of them and the feelings they evoke, and the spirituality engendered. A fine poem.

The Harvest of Truth fills this cornucopia laid bare on the table, Juliet...The King's Widow is seasonal purification to give dormancy to seasonal pause and ruminate...food for thought until the fruition of spring when emotions are blooming from the forgiveness of the harshness in the fields...always, the sheaves are fuller when there is kindness and respect for body, mind and soul...this has a correlation to my The Woman Who Shot Liberty Valance posted in my den.

Love,
Sage

I enjoyed this one and felt like I was looking into the soul of an ill used lady who came to grips with the wrongs done her and now stood tall.
