At the dream Oasis
I met her--
Even a Goddess
Must drink.
Hooded, jeweled,
She rises,
and I awe-struck,
Slow as eons,
Back away,
Every mammalian
Sense tingling,
Ancient Terror.
Stillness She guards
By the honeycomb tombs,
Our Lady of the Shifting
Sands, of the Empty Places--
Meret-Singer--
She Who Loves Silence.

find myself there in the dream, experiencing the terror that
invades the stillness, the silence of the ancient tomb.
Nevertheless, a joy to read. -gene.
Everything about this poem is right: sentiment, phrasing, exquisite word choice and impact, above all impact..."Every mammalian Sense tingling"...and those are my senses reading this. You've brightened a very overcast morning for me, this is simply marvelous.

Ps Are you familiar with that poem about the snake by DH Lawrence? This has a similar atmosphere and vibration.

Powerfully expressed - first sighting, the terror, the hoping you get away captured in fine lines - well done. My new favorite of yours.
