You told me to forget You told me to forget But how could I forget my child That was not fully real and yet Not merely a dream The baby that grew in my belly But never cried out The little pink life that’s heart Beat within my body Then went still You told me to forget Walked away from my tears To you our baby was an idea But I felt the life within I carried the loss like that baby Swollen with it, years Of pain to lift along As if it would bring baby back to life As if the remembering set me free You told me to forget But it was this that kept me A second from the thought of my angel That never came to be My baby died years ago The memory still lives with me We died too that day Because you could not face it Kept the memory shut away You told me to forget, And ended up forgetting me   © 2006 Camille Blount
