A few short weeks ago I watched my father-in-law pass away. Your words describe the feelings I felt as I watched him slip away. It is almost like you were there watching too. Glad your poem has a better ending.

Excellent write...makes me think of those instances when I try to awake from sleep but my body won't budge, it used to be and still is a very scarry experience...

"...My primitive brain mindless"...great line!...that allowed me to come up for air...Gosh! I almost suffocated! :)

This has to be a true to life experience, one I am glad you survived! I live among the undertows here in Florida, they are very dangerous! "They" say to ride with the current or you will tire easily if trying to fight against it!
I can't imagine being sucked into a tunnel of sea water!...or drowning for that matter, and now you've totally convinced me, it's not the way I want to go!:0

Goodness me, this is powerful stuff, Elizabeth. So convicing and, if based on an experienced reality, I'm so glad you survived. In fact, you have given such a graphic picture that, even if this is based on a fictional account, your powers of description make us feel like we are experiencing this ovewhelming suffocation and drowning with you. I particularly like the sensation of the feet feeling the silty bottom. I can picture all of this vividly and appreciate both the terror and the utold strength and energies that suddenly kick in in the bid to survive. Thank you for reposting this. as for me I interpret suffocation of emotional duress, emotional poverty that starves me...gee I guess I need a tissue

This is more than interesting, its magnificent! The picture it paints on the mind had me holding my breath till the last breathing out feeling the explosion of NOT GIVING UP, fighting to live in my heart, mind and soul!
