Satisfaction

“I can’t get no — sa tis fak shun!”
Stones’ assertion was statement of life
For that group’s relative station —
Sharp harbinger of profit and strife.

Satisfaction

A poet’s comfort is in his work,
Happiness, creativity employs,
Other communications may shirk,
But pen in hand, spirit buoys.

Work merits deepest attention,
Takes shape with the speed of snail,
Concentration matches intention,
Meets finish with joyful wail,

Sigh with deep satisfaction,
Enjoy the fruits of endeavor,
But if long dwells inaction,
Contentedness mars “forever,”

For at signoff, emptiness may lurk,
Silently, to spread and grow.
Satisfaction marking end of work
Can strike Muse a heavy blow.

And if She deigns never return,
To shower her bright inspiration,
Or make the spirit wildly yearn —
Latent ink, dry precipitation.

…

I lowly moan in deepest despair,
My fate’s darkest path wander,
Find no words in thinnest of air,
Not here, nor there, nor yonder.

I stare at lexicon and tear my hair,
Pull at stars for a silver thread,
In anguish wish for even a nightmare,
To splash dark verse inside my head …

Oh, return to this soul, fickle Muse,
Deluge mind with songs that wing,
With pen in hand, let my spirit loose,
Noblest thoughts, fruition bring,

Set them to sing a chorus refrain,
Symphonious harmony of word,
Prismatic imagery each entrain
Rainbow flight, butterfly and bird,

Deftly across ink-adorned page,
Tinted flit, charm of golden voice.
So, Muse, as power I re-engage,
Words exported will be your choice.

As poetry flows from you to me,
In darkest storm or brightest sun,
I strive steadfast principle to be:
“Not too much — sa tis fak shun!”

Can't get any either, Leland. Comforting, isn't it? Last stanzas much better than the first.

Leland, this made me smile and yet, it deals with a situation all writers face at one time or another. You have a gift for injecting humor into your writings at times. This piece is a nicely penned poem with good flow and rhythm.

Sounds like the dreaded "writer's block" to me, Leland, m'dear... Hmmmm... some say, even in poetry, the best defense is offense.. when the muse in refuse mode, flank her and write 'til something makes sense... I, myself, did that once... oh, my... I'm still doing it!! (grin). On the chance that I missed entirely what you said here, I'll send you some of my homemade biscuits. Oh, wait... I can't.. sigh... there wasn't much of a muse for those either... even cats and dogs refuse to eat my baked goods... These comments are proof that when I have nothing of any import to say, I just keep blabbing... sorry. LOL. I do love the way you rhyme. Yep. (This woman is a well-known pest and will be removed from this window promptly!) smiling katy xox.

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
