As I wrote in my earlier e-mail message to you, the title of this poem caused "my heart to fall to my feet", dearest friend! What a jolt, indeed, because I thought that you had really "lost" Sam! And although I was tremendously relieved when I read the whole story and its outcome, I will forever be able to relate and feel your worry as my own - because of the "jolts" that a certain "pack o' mutts", all of them also rabbit-chasing lovers, are constantly giving to my poor heart! That's what moms are for, to teach Sam where danger lies. when we take a puppy home, he loses his mom.

Translates well to children, as well.

A fanciful and totally delightful dance of words. This proves that a true poet can create fine material from the most modest of models. (though in this case, a very endearing one)

Graphically penned tale, Leland. I recall being lost many years ago in a dark damp forest swamp with a couple of my siblings-- our family dog, Wolfy, rescued us! This wonderful write brings it all back so vividly.

My mutt, The Nipperdawg, has a little black and white tramp neighbor that he takes off after every so often, and not because of her being in heat, he just liked her. Every time I get in the car and drive to where I KNOW he will be, expecting him come upon him flat as a pancake from the wheels of some car. Cute poem.

This is a wise beautiful story... "Lost Sam" sings its message of wisdom: "DON'T YOU EVER ENTER ANOTHER'S TERRITORY AND SOVEREIGNTY, FOR THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO GET LOST."

I got rufuz so trained that he stays close, even if he is not on a leash...though I don't know that he would if he chased a bunny or as we have a great deal here, feral cats...glad your buddy got home safe...but would not the wolves attack a human if they were hungry enough...think I will stay in NJ...no wolves other than the human kind...but we do have black bear...Ed & rufuz

Wow Leland! That was a close call! Glad Sam made it!Funny how we seem to be okay, only if we stay within our own safe place in life. Do you think that's the way it was designed to be?jk;-)... Sometimes it seems that way .Of course we would never have gotten past go if we lived like that;-)Just ruminating;-)...lol...Superb poem as always from you !
