Stephanie Hancock is a young friend (13), who has a poetic bent. I'm posting one of her creations here. I hope you enjoy it.

In the Dark

Waiting in the dark

trying to find my way

why am I so alone?

I’m hopelessly in despair

all alone

Can you see right through me?

Or am I just trying to hide?

Waiting in the dark

trying to find my way

anybody here

why am I so alone?

I’m hopelessly in despair

all alone

Can you see right through me?

Or am I just trying to hide?

Waiting in the dark

trying to find my way

anyone take me by the hand

I’m here

Through these raindrop tears

Am I alone?

All alone

I need a familiar face

Can you see right through me?

Or am I just trying to hide?

Waiting in the dark

I found the way

you took me by the hand

I found my light

I am wanted

I found the way

on a dark cloudy day

I am happy

---Stephanie Hancock

Okay, I stand corrected. I was in the dark! Stephanie says she is now 14. I guess I missed that last birthday, or at least the number attached to it. In any event, Stephanie has the poetic touch and I very much enjoyed reading her very eloquent contribution to the craft.

This is so beautiful! She sure captured the feelings "we" all have had at one time or another in life and she brought "us" to a beautiful ending. Great!

Like the classicism of true poetry, I love the repeating lines in this... it is like a certain poetic form, villanelle or something... tersa rima... need someone to comment who is actually knowledgeable about such things!! But certainly, Stephanie has a poet's eye and heart. The repetitions bring us right to the centre of her thoughts and feelings and the lightness in the final stanza is delightful! :)) Thank you, Stephanie and well done! More please! Kate xx

My congratulations to Stephanie for not only a very good poem, but for knowing the importance of catching the reader's eye with imaginative words and form! Well done, young lady!!
Thank you for sharing Stephanie's work with us, Leland...
