A Gift

This poem was dedicated for my boss, the father of a beautiful 15 year old girl who was taken by brain cancer.

A child is a treasure more precious than life itself.

If lucky enough, a gift to cherish each waking moment

bringing joy and laughter, sadness and tears we hold dear.

Without realizing it, they can mold us into who we become.

Each memory, a building block of time leading to the next in hopes there will be many more to complete a cycle.

Yet sometimes, the cycle is broken without reason.

There are questions, but no answers, it just is.

Not strong enough to fight a battle without just cause,

continuing to struggle, hoping, praying with every

ounce of courage and strength until used up completely.

To even try to imagine loosing such a gift is unimaginable.  A child should never have to endure pain and suffering.

If I could, I would fit your pain in the palms of my hands,
holding it for an eternity of safe keeping, if that’s what it took.

For every tear you shed, I would hold an eternal cup of life, catching each precious drop until the cup was full, so that I may release it to the angels to let them know how much you hurt.

If I could somehow fill the empty void you must be feeling, I would gladly trade my heart for your broken one in hopes that it may bring you some peace and comfort.

This is all I have to offer you, and if I could,

I would give it all to you in a heartbeat.

Such a heartwarming and wonderful write that I am sure your boss will treasure. Always sad when a parent survives a child, nothing is ever the same again....

Be safe,
Karen
