It's 4:25 am and I think I'll try and sleep now. . .Teenagers! need I say more?

Poem Artwork

Up all night, a mothers pacing
from day to day. . . what’s she facing?
Her thoughts, boomerang with worry
and worry comes right back at her, in thought!
If she’s not looking at the whole
she’s weighing pros and cons
If not, seeking out her soul
she’s waving magic wands!
She tosses, she turns
yet, sleep won’t come!
No little sheep
she can’t count on one!
Her gut feels tied
her heads all busy
Her hearts in her ears
and her spirit’s all dizzy!
Up all night, a mother’s pacing
hour upon hour
her thinking’s racing
. . . around a track in her brain
She wants to go insane!
"Lock me up and let me sleep!", she screams
"Take me away to the meadows and sheep!"
She gleams!
But, I hear them crying in the night
When their faith turns into fright
and fearing for their children
Bewildered.
Up all night, every,  ticking,  minute
Seconds turn into eternities
of darkness, so, she prays. . .
She prays. . .
Up all night, every waking moment
She’s a mother. . . and its in her make-up
the black mascara dripping down her face
pace. pace. pace. . .
Up all night, a mother’s pacing
from day to day, hour upon hour, every ticking minute, every waking moment
the forever seconds...she beckons. . .
sleep. . .
sleep. . . sleep. . .
sheep. . . ?

"Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world
have mercy on us
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world
have mercy on us
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world
grant her peace. . .
"

Now, sleep. . .sleep. . .sleep. . .

I hear you!
I have 7, soon to be 9 teenagers...

You forgot to have a line dealing with a mom's flat forehead from banging it against a brick wall (or is that just me that often feels like I would be better off doing that than trying to get through to some of my kids... hee, hee...)

Kimmy you wrote this with the experience of one who knows every word from living it each day. All mothers owe you thanks for this gem! You had me remembering the many nights I did the same, and also the ones my mom did before me! Imagine the miles we put in pacing...
ps did I misunderstand, you didn't mean that you did that pic with pen? If so you are a pro and I didn't know;-)Wow!

Love,
ET

What would our children do if they didn't have their Mothers to care and love them so...

Mothers are the core of every family...I hope all works out well for you and your family...

A home I would love to live in, nice photograph! Very descriptive in the day and life of being a parent, a mother specifically. Think I have paced the floors many a night...

Be safe,

I understand a Mother's angst, but most especially that which I imposed upon mine. I was blessed to always have my son home by his curfew - a true oddity. None the less, I always prayed for his safety and prayed again that he was home - safe and sound.

God bless you. Kathy

I remember those long sleepless night when you're worried sick...wondering if or when will they come home...it took tough love for one of mine to be turned around...beautiful prayer

...the first to review at the bottom of this page...hears your prayer...for he too...your father...loses sleep over ones mother... his wife...and ones daughter...also recognizes her mother's caring beauty...sometime mistaken for worry...but a constant gift a mother's gives to let her family sleep...in the safety of her awaken heart.
most beautiful prayer...

Mothers are the wave-breakers where all storms die, but no one hears the moans of pain, now and then, from the wave-breaker.

I think we relive our youth full days and think of what might befall our kids, as in the chances we took, but we lived through them, so rest in peace, for naught comes from worry and as you have so rightfully done, say a prayer to God for there safety and rest your weary head.

This made me cry Mom. It made me cry because I'm sad for what you are going through, it made me cry because as a mother of a teenager, I worry exactly like this, and it made me cry to think that at one point you were going through the same thing because of me. I love you so much!!!

Kimmy,

Wow! I read your poem and instantly thought of my mom and how she must have felt. All I know is whenever I can home she was always awake. I don't ever think she went to sleep until all her babies were in the house and safely tucked away. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Wow, Kimmy. I happened upon your poem right after reading George's piece Tick, tick, tick, which ran along similar themes of angst, the passage of time, and the nature of human existence. A wonderful read full of great imagery and emotion. Thanks for sharing.
