What is it that I can say to my children who
Will ask the questions I have no answers to?
Why some people would hurt, kill and maim
Innocent persons on a bus, tube or plane?
Or why their Muslim friends at primary school
Are called names and treated ever-so cruel?
Why someone would put fear in their heart
When loved ones travel and they are apart?

For young children could never understand
How these people who now live in our land
Cause terror and pain to all those around
On the basis of religion their morals are bound.
How these Extremists live just normal lives
Often having children, husbands and wives,
Then spend their time secretly plotting to kill
To make ordinary people bend to their will?

Even I can not comprehend the reason
Is it a just cause or a crime or treason?
Could someone please explain it all to us
Instead of blowing us up whilst riding the bus
What true motives are behind your actions?
I know it’s blamed on certain Muslim fractions
Killing someone’s daughter or beloved son
I simply don’t understand why it is done.

How can that support your cause or crusade?
Destroying people’s lives and plans they’ve made.
I’ve taught my children the best I could
All the things I believe in and understood
I’ve shown them how to love and respect everyone
Not bearing a grudge over things that were done
Not noticing the difference between colour or creed
Nor if someone has an affliction or special need.

To live their lives with love, care and support
Is what my children have always been taught
But now they are worried about recent events
And ask if they are safe and to what extents
So we send out a plea from our heads and heart
Please don’t rip any more families apart
Whatever it is that makes our nation so bad
Think about the normal people you’ll make sad

In the name of your cause whether just or not
As you sit down to make your bombs and plot
Spare of thought for people like my children and me
Who want to live in happiness and harmony.
We are not politicians or Heads of the State
Although it is those people who seal our fate
All we truly want is to have real peace of mind
So happiness and harmony everyone can find.

This is wonderful, you told it all so well, anyone, child thru adult would understand the passion of your words. We are all in this together, and the divisions cause by new and ancient aches, only make the chasm deeper. We have to live in the now, for the future
this is brilliant, and a keeper
