Why, when we all live and breathe the same air
Do some people want to hurt those for whom we care?
Our sisters, our brothers and all those who we love
How can it be a command for an Almighty force above?
For Martyrs are not born but they are truly created
By misguided duty, maybe love, spite or even hatred
No one should be despised or treated worse than another
Because we all came into this world borne from a mother.
Our skins may appear in a different colour or shade
But inside there’s no difference how our bodies are made
So no life should be deemed less precious than the next
Therefore not one person should be considered a reject
It is our way of thinking that makes us all different
Controlling who we are and our thoughts to an extent
For we are all taught the way our society deems fit
Some children learn to love and some to fight and hit.
History is repeated and our ways are passed down
Via customs and traditions without a smile but a frown
So how can our children even start to comprehend
Why some people are our enemy instead of a friend?
Because sometimes it was the acts of our forefathers
Who cause us to be robbed of our sisters and brothers
There are generations who don’t really understand
Why plots to kill and maim our innocents are planned.
If we could start all over and wipe the slate clean
Maybe peace and harmony it could possibly mean
We could teach all our children to love and get on
And show them the old ways were sometimes wrong
We could give them a chance to respect one another
And show compassion and kindness for each other
As simple as all our children walking hand-in-hand.
Could bring a new beginning to everyone in every land.
