The birth of a spring is a miracle like the birth of a child therefore why do we not nurture it?

The narrow mouth of the stream glistened in the afternoon sun
Each ripple dancing its own merry jig as along the flow it run.
“From where do you come?” I asked the spirit of the stream
The trickling of the water seemed to listen and then answer me.
“I’m born from Mother Earth herself, from deep inside her girth!”
The reply warmed my soul as I realised I was present at its birth
“May I walk with you?” I enquired as I prepared to go on my way
Although the stream didn’t answer me it didn’t bid me good day!
So I slowly paced every step, as I watched and wondered in awe
Studying the ebbing of the tiny waves gently kissing the shore
Contently I wandered and wondered at the beauty in front of me
Then realisation dawned; how did the extra water come to be?
Without a conscious thought the question off my tongue did roll
“From the eyes of Mother Earth herself, from deep inside her soul
As Mother Earth does weep for the pain and suffering on her land,”
I felt such pity for Mother Earth and wanted to take her by the hand
To dry the tears she truly cried and to give her comfort and care
But all I could really do was stand before the water and stare.
“If you think that’s sad please follow me,” the water spirit said
I’m not sure if it really spoke but the words popped into my head.
So I strolled along for quite some time wondering where we’d go
What new miracle or special thing the water spirit had to show
When my pacing came to an end the stream seemed normal to me
Until the sun shone down on us and the truth I could really see
The water had turned a murky brown and lost its natural rhythm
No more dancing its merry jig as it slowed from deep within
“What changed the water?” I cried out loud hoping for an answer
“It’s the blood of Mother Earth from all the harm done to her!”
Disbelief was my first thought then to point the finger of blame
“How could we allow this to happen?” I held my head in shame!
“That’s nothing!” The water spirit struggled to whisper aloud
“Follow me and you will see just what the people have allowed!”
I didn’t walk very far before I stopped and stood in total dismay
As the water spirit let out a sigh and cried “This is where I die today!”
The water before me was as still as a stone and clearly very polluted
Sadly, the heart of Mother Earth herself has been plundered and looted!
And this time the multitude of tears fell from eyes belonging to me
For not only the harm done to Mother Earth but the future I could see;
Our planet taking its last breaths after everything in the world is dead
And due to toxic waste in the water these are the last words I ever said,
“It is us who really need to be pitied for all the bad deeds we have done
Slowly killing Mother Earth herself without a thought for anyone!”
