We should not only pray for our soldiers, but also for their families. Love gives, but also hurts, and these families make the biggest sacrifices of us all.
You say you are going away for training.
I say Thank God,
For I know that soon it could be
North Korea
Or Iraq.
When I fell in love with you
I thought I could handle it--
I’m not so sure now.
You’re a part of me,
And I am finding it harder each day
To restrain the tears; to shake the fear
That you won’t come back this time.
Desert Storm,
Honduras,
Iraq.
I wasn’t there for those engagements,
But I know that you were blessed to return unscathed…
So, I try to stay positive
To keep myself occupied by recalling that I must live today;
Cherish you in every way…
But I can’t stop my mind from photographing--
Every move, every expression, every nuance--
It’s a reaction to pain unspeakable.
Sure to provide me with lots of memories
In the case that memories
Are all that I am left with.
War stinks.
But to the heart of the one that loves the warrior
Loving the warrior is the greatest torment of all.
This is so much a factor in day to day live. During the two great wars, the Korean war, the war in vietnam etc it mostly applied to the male warriors, but today it applies to both genders and as an employee for the Canadain National Defence for 25 years I watched this change take place. I saw mothers kiss their babies and husbands to board ships for Irag. Iran, Afganistan etc. Anyway I digress from your intense and all too real poem for the warriors and I too salute them all.
This is beautiful but also sad. Your write is very heartfelt and sincere. I'll never forget seeing the look in my grandmothers face when she had to say goodbye to my uncle/her youngest son when he was drafted for vietnam. There was such a sadness swept over our entire family the day that he left...this is heart wrenching but quickly becoming more of a reality to our generation than one would ever have expected...God Bless our troops, thier family....God Bless us all!

There is so much shrouded in secrecy during war. Not knowing must be an intense fire that at times must feel like it is consuming you.
I salute your courage in writing this ...
