It is early in the morning When all is quiet and still When most folks are still sleeping And daylight is below the horizon hill.
I wake to busy thoughts a’flickering Emerging from out of dreams Spinning into reality of concerns Worries akin to common things.
There’s my son with his ailment, There’s my sister growing old There’s the past that should be past Old miseries I still keep hold.
Just to go back to sleep, I think And get eight instead of five Just to rest peacefully once again And wake up feeling fresh and alive.
Why do people have insomnia To make you yearn for peaceful sleep? Have I sinned, I ask my God And wakefulness is what I reap?
Perhaps God is giving me extra time To accomplish more while others sleep To revere and use every minute of life To cherish every moment He lets me keep.
Think positive thoughts, I remind myself Search out the good instead of bad, You’ll one day have far more sleep Than you’ve ever wished you had.
And so, I come awake with eagerness To start a wonderful and cheerful day I thank God for his bountiful blessings, And in His name I pray.
You hit on the hard fact of life here, Jeanette, the way our problems can simply consume us. I finally had to just turn them over to God, and admit to him that they were too big for me to deal with.....Jerry
