As the holiday’s approach yet another year… I began to think about the spirit of the occasion, How it consists of mostly glitter and hype… for the real purpose is forgotten I began to fear. When I realized that I too am a bit guilty of this masquerade, fussing more over the insignificant details, such as trimmings and a holiday parade. For what is Thanksgiving, but just what it says… a time to count our blessings… a time to be thankful for our days. I tried to count them one by one… no too much time this would take, so a simple list I will try to make. With an idea I was inspired…a letter to my Savior!
Dear Jesus, I realize that you are busy, with all the people asking so much everyday, I just wanted to take a few moments…well there are some things I really want to say. I don’t quite know where to start… Let me see, ah yes thank you dear Lord for living in my heart. Thank you Lord for allowing me another year, for filling me with your love and good cheer. Thank you my precious Savior for my life… even those days filled with strife. I thank you Jesus for my salvation that you give ever so free, to a poor sinful wretch like me. Thank you Lord for my family…to call them by name there are too many… for the food on our table…dear Lord you’ve supplied my family with plenty. Thank you for my church, which is my refuge from the storm, for the altar where redemption is born. Thank you Jesus for my job you’ve given to me and made a way, for all the joy I find in my students precious faces each day. Thank you Lord for my health and my families too, thank you for all the small things that you do. I thank you for our beautiful earth on which we freely live… thank you Lord for teaching me to love and to give. I appreciate the freedom of worship in our land, thank you dear Lord for mercy extended from your hand. Thank you dear Lord for listening when worries have me bound, and for my home and farm where I love to tend your ground. Thank you Jesus for my jeep although it’s not new… it takes me where I need to go…and for keeping me safe during travel too. Thank you Lord for the promises to which I cling, thank you for giving me a voice and desire to sing. Thank you for the Bible that teaches me how to live, for the joy and the peace that you give. Thank you for my home and my warm bed in which I sleep, and for the comfort you give when you hear me weep. I thank you dear Lord for my friends and all we share, I thank you for the clothes which I wear. Thank you Lord for the shield of protection, for which I cannot see, but I know when I feel your spirit that it is wrapped around my family and me. This poem could go on until late hours of the night… so I will close with one last thought…. Thank you Lord for giving your life on Calvary… for with your life…my sins were bought. Oh and Lord one more thing I would like to say… I love your Lord with all of my heart… Oh, I almost forgot. I just wanted to ask… Is there something that I can do for you today?
If only all of us would say a heart felt prayer like you did, this world would be a better place. Absolutely a beautiful prayer and poem. Thank you. Best regards, Bonnie May
Joyce, this is so wonderful! I was needing to read some of your matchless writing today, and first chose the most recent, and now just one title that appealed to me.
I will print this out, and use it as a pattern for prayer today, and when I come across it again in the future.
But I will add, "Thank You, precious Lord, for Joyce, who loves You so much that she is a shining testimony of Your grace."
Without a shadow of doubt, God was blessed by this praise offering prayer from this precious darling child. Thank You Joyce for sharing this.
Peace&Grace,
Sharon

Joyce, you have brought the full meaning of Thanksgiving to us in this lovely heartfelt poem. It touched me in a special way and I will keep it in my thoughts today and throughout this wondrous season.

It is said that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and that the Lord loves a cheerful giver... Takes One to know one, and then some!! :)) This love letter will delight His heart and may your attitude of gratitude recoup His blessing in manifold and intangible ways... which will surely not be missed by your thankful mind and loving spirit. And, anything you can do?? You already have, in ways that you truly have no idea about: such is the glory of the life held and sustained in the love of the God who is Himself Love. The more Love gives, the more it replenishes its own source. In this is the Banquet for certain sure! Gorgeous, thank you. K xx

Perfect ending, something we so easily forget. With Christmas coming, there will be another time for that phrase, for we give gifts to all except to the protagonist of the feast. Victor
Joyce you have such a loving, giving heart -- the last line really sums it all up, "Is there something that I can do for you today?" Thank you for such an inspiring poem full of things we should all be thinking about for the holidays.
Much love,
