This about the approach of the end of life and about faith, with a couple sharing their lives together.

Through the gray light
Of the twilight window
I see the reflection
Of your familiar silhouette
Emblazoned with red-orange fire
In the angled rays
Of the setting sun
Shining in a halo
Around your brown-gray hair.
Oh my Darling,
Hold me softly.
Know only that
I’m growing old
For the twilight
Also grips my spirits,
And the fire of life within me
Begins to grow so very cold.
Yet I know
We still have days before us,
Days of joy and days of pain.
Let us grasp our faiths together
As I strain to see
So very darkly
Through the twilight window pane.
Jerry Engler, you have gifted us with deeply moving verses that only one who knows the intensity of a life-long love can understand.
I have been blessed beyond belief with an adorable and loving companion since we were both only fourteen. There has never been another. There could never be another. In my heart I feel the passionate emotion of your stirring "Oh my Darling, Hold me softly."
I, too, am straining to see through the twilight window pane. God has granted me zest and robust health at 74, yet I know my days are numbered. I am satisfied and fulfilled. But with God as my companion, I'm going to keep paddling my canoe and enjoying His glorious world 'til the last ray of sunshine.
Twilight Window shares the profound insight of mature wisdom. May you share more with us for at least thirty more!
A touching portrait of the bittersweet realization that the years grow shorter as we grow older...facing that knowledge with grace and love, you have written a wonderful poem.
Jerry this is such a deep feeling, beautiful poem. I can feel a lot of energy behind your words, and so much pure emotion. I think it is one of your best poems. Something about it almost feels "Yeats-ish." Absolutely lovely.

What a beautiful write and when this line was read...I saw the real beauty in the "Twilight Window"...for when one weakens or fails to see, the other will be right there, holding them...
Love this~
