Silence, my sister
companion of the night,
surrounds me with
her loving solitude,
so still, so still,
carrying me back
to her big eyes crying
in the dark,
alone no more
with nothing else
but her.
Jerry. This is a favorite of mine. Simple, but meaningful. Silence can be our companion. Your poem is much easier to read without all caps at the beginning of each line. I'd like to see this in your book. Thanks, Kathy
"Silence, my sister companion of the night...alone no more with nothing else but her."
Silence is a gift more worthy than any earthly treasure, for in all the universe we must know that we are never alone. God is everywhere. The admonition of silence is God's word: "Be still and hear my voice."
As always, Jerry Engler, you say so much to us in so few words. To miss your writing is a tragedy of the soul.
The sound of your silence almost sounds like death. A few other thoughts are running around in my head after reading this. This is a most thought-provoking poem.
Wow, Jerry. I read this twice and I'm still not sure I got everything you expressed, because I sense there are layers of meaning here, but this is a gorgeous piece of poetry. It has such a soothing flow and such beautiful imagery. Very, very nice.
