Unexpectedly I learned that many of my poems  have been misinterpreted. I took these past couple days to ponder whether to leave the den. It hurts to realize how naive one can be. We all have the capablity to use two or more faces, but usually the people we trust don't use them on us. I refuse to be forced to put an explanation on what I write. So to those who are inclined to belittle me, I guess I'll just have to be fair game, and be more careful of whom I trust. Thanks to all of you who have supported me over the five years I've been here, I'm deeply grateful!

The wisdom of the ages speaks
Through
Horses hooves and mountain peaks
Through
Valleys wide and Oceans deep
Through
Humanity when truth we keep
Through
Well meant goals and failure of
Through
The finding of ways to rise above
Through
Words of Creator and mans interpretation
Through
The whole awesome universe and its creation

Though
There be powerful forces that abuse the earth
Though
There be shallow humans that demean our worth
Though
There be enemies of war both weak and strong
Though
There be battles to fight both right and wrong
Though
There be natures wrath through storms and stress
Though
There be events that put us under  pain of duress
Through
Whatever we may face, the sun will still rise today
Through
The unchangeable standards of God's mighty way

etw-2005

Sorry folks I didn't intend to upset anyone, I'm just putting the finishing touches to some unjust treatment that demeaned me and wanted the ones who did it to know my feelings.

Oh my goodness....such a top rate masterful powerful poem....who are they let me at them! Your wisdom to me in past is to ignore them but for sure Eileen it does make one pretty upset and mad at them no doubt....I once wrote a poem called 'Don't read between my lines' due to them doing that....bloody hell, when will they wake up Eileen ?Never I expect...be strong as you always are and ignore those half wit jealous troublemakers....whoever they are,I don't know but I can guess... but ...best I don't.

gosh, Eileen. I understand this fully as my own work posted here has been at time grossly misinterpreted, almost always innocently by the reader. and I hurt for you. but, goodness knows, that I often read and review quickly because that's all I have time to do. so, please, if any remark I make ever, ever causes you to feel a tinge of this, contact me and let me know. for the most part, I've learned to do the same - ignore if possible, contact the individual if the relationship is important to me. don't let it stop your powerful, beautiful voice. writing poetry is something we do from the heart & soul ... if i was to become upset over how many of my poems are misinterpreted, i would not write for a public audience ... like E.Dickerson, i would keep them in a trunk up in my attic (if i had one ;) anyway, just write what you feel and feel what you write ...

Unkind comments/words do hurt. But they are unavoidable when posting writings online for the world to see; especially when posting work on sensitive subjects. As no one sees a piece of work exactly like the writer of it does. Best to keep on writing and not get hampered by other people words.

Best wishes, stay strong

... Just goes to show that there can be more than two-sides to any story, especially in this environment of the ultra "touchy-feely" response to both writing and review. We all, as writers, must have a desire to speak and to be heard - but we have no guarantee as to what will be received or understood, or, indeed, whether anyone is really listening, except to their own interpretations. It is a risk we all take and, when things end up as miscommunication instead of clear communication, there are no winners, only losers. The situation is painful all round and, even where there are apologies, the underlying sting and stigma can remain. Where malice has been deliberate, that is heartbreaking; but where there has only been confusion and not actual intent to harm, then that is agony. And sometimes sincere apology and attempts to set things straight just don't seem to be enough. I, for one, am glad you feel able to stay, and perhaps your shared feelings here will be an encouragement to others who have sadly felt that they, too, perhaps, are labouring under similar circumstances. We all go through this, Eileen. I learned the hard way to stop listening to the folks trading info on the Web until I get to know the person personally. Sometimes you can't even trust emails, as some learned last year on the Den. People will not always understand what we write or agree with what we write. You write what you feel and what you believe, and you've promised no one to do otherwise. Whatever or whoever's bothering you right now, let it go, and do not deprive those who enjoy what you have to offer of your hearing from you. And sometimes we just need to take a break. You know I understand taking a break as you cautioned me about overdoing it. :-) ~~Nordette

As usual, Eileen, your a class act..!! Cyber bullies are everywhere without a drop of compassion towards anyone. I know if all mankind had the realization of just who they were created by, for and what purpose, there would not be the senseless acts upon our planet. If you decide to leave Authors Den, I will promise you I will follow you.. Please understand you are so deeply loved in spirit by many. You teach so many people lifes views.. If you decide to go please give me an e mail.. But please stay...I learn so much from you..!!! Eileen,

I kind of agree with Ed. Not everyone sees what we write in the same light. Sometimes I have responded to poetry and after thinking awhile on the poem found that I was way off and that my response could have been taken in the wrong way. At other times I have thrown in a joking remark not meaning any harm. A few times people have emailed me about my remark. I've apologized to them and made sure that in the future I only responded in a more sensitive way but I have found that people can be bitter and many do hold grudges. No one can like everything we write and if I receive a negative comment It can only help me in the future. We all learn from our mistakes and we certainly all make them. If anyone doesn't like any of my comments I welcome their personnal message to me saying so. Always a friend, Paul.

I guess I am at a loss to understand what any of the above means, Tiger Lily. Is there an official interpretor here at AD? And do our poems have to meet his/her official interpretation criteria? And must we explain what we mean to them? If not, I can't imagine why you would even consider letting someone run you off because they 'misinterpreted' what you wrote. Everything anyone writes is subject to a thousand diffrent interpretations, of every single word they pen - and if we have to worry about that, I think we should all be leaving here.

Eileen:

Gosh! I have had so many poems that I wrote that I felt in one way, but others have took it another way; but then later the poem could really meant for more than one ways...

It must be our talents to write a poem that can be read in several ways after we have written it, but what we meant to say in the first place has gotten way far into many interpretations. I often looked at the response and then thought, "What? Oh yeah, it could have meant that way too!" - Isn't it odd and magical that we can say something and then meant something else; and then another thing else?

Believe me, I've experienced this a lot with the poems I write; but I'm in no shame, I just carried on that I meant whatever the audience thought it meant and leave it at that. Afterall, that's how they've read it. I quite enjoy the extra interpretations that my poem had created.

Interesting points of views from different audience from different walks of life. That is why we, the poets, are able to talk about many things in our poetry. We should really congratulate ourselves for our talents!!! Heeheee!!!

The poetry was not inspiring but your forthoughts kicked me in the gut. I expect, yes demamd, misinterpretation in my constamt thirst for the truth. There are many who have written me off in anger of my words, but you, like a few other enlightened have stayed the course. The middle road--alas, no road--is safe from fools, so we must abide them whatever road we travel.

Stay and continue to enthrall us with your cosmic vision. God has nothing to do with it.

This infuriates me! People probably misinterperate everyone's poetry at one time or another. Why would someone specifically pick on you?! Yours are some of the deepest and clearest poems I have read. I doubt if I have misinterpreted any of them. And so what? No one can know what someone else is thinking. I just don't get it and I am mad!

Wonderful write and don't you ever let anybody discourage you to the point that you want to leave this den. Now you know how President Bush feels with all the lies that have been told about him and the pity is too many do not check them out and believe what the opposing party says about him. You are a precious gem that many admire and you shine above all. We love you.
