These are the basic lessons that must be learned if we wish to live a happy life.
"Do unto others..." "Practice random acts of kindness" "Forgive and forget" "Love like you have never been hurt" "Give more than you think you can" "Have faith more than you think you can muster" "Honor freedom" You have said all of these things in your wonderful verse, Eileen. It is a wise person who understands that being kind is its own reward, for we know that we have unselfishly given our very best. Learn to love as God loves, so that we can love Him as He loves us; so that we can love all of mankind as He does. Excellent, excellent writing!

More than an open mind, we need open hearts to truly see. As far as understanding goes, I believe firmly in the philosophy of Stephen Covey who writes "Seek first to understand and then to be understood."

Ah, Eileen, what a pretty picture you paint! If only everyone would allow others their choices and ideas as long as they don't hurt anyone. One can expect reciprocated respect all they want, but there is a faction that doesn't allow any opinions but their own. This is a beautiful and heartfelt poem. I wish it were true. I think that maybe in little groups and factions, this may be the case but I'm afraid that Carmen is right. Good write with a lot to think about.

Too true, not keeping scores with the reckonings of yesterday, but moving on in growth and maturity and the will to understand must be the way to go. Honesty has to be the main thing: it is at least the anchor upon which all other assessments can be made. A closed mind is always a stumbling block to truth because it refuses to judge fairly and without prejudice. We are not in control of what flows into us... but we are accountable for what we put out. Have motes and beams on the brain (or in me eyes!) having just come here from Lori's page! It has taken me 48 years to realise that what is in MY head is not the same as what is in anyone else's!!
