This poem is about a friend

~*~
She threw the shredded canvas
into the dumpster with rage
he watched from the balcony
she ignored his plea to stop

It was a painting she had done
when he was younger and faithful
one of her best portraits
she treasured it so highly

Now still full of anger she got in her car
and took off for points unknown
amidst shouts from him of " where are
you going,  please come back"

She drove like a demon was after her
and knowing she could do damage she
pulled off the main road and went to
a nearby tavern,  ordered a Dewar's neat

She sat alone in a booth, having been there before...the waitress knew her casually

She ordered another scotch, but in water this time. her thoughts were still flying about helter skelter

Dar had been cheating with one after another for the past year it was time to call it quits. she had put up with him hoping it would stop

But now to learn his latest was her sisters 19 year old  daughter that was beyond the pale

Shivered just thinking about it and what her sister would do if she ever found out

Dar said it was over , had  only  been a few times, but she no longer trusted him

She hated what this world was becoming morally
there seemed to be no taboos at all

To hell with it she decided to look out of the city for a small town with at least some goodness in it

She wanted no more of the "sex in the city"
syndrome that had taken over the land

Sex was good she liked it, but  with romance
and love , not just anything with anyone

She cried for her niece who would have to pay for this shoddy behavior one day. Deception always bites back

She cared not what would happen to her mate of 8 years he was the least of her worries he'd get his eventually, karma is like that

But for her sister and niece, her heart bled, and a little for herself too, everything good is dying

This happens every day by the second. I grieve for the spouses because I went through it myself. I pray for your friend. I hope to goodness she doesn't have a moment of weakness and take him back. He will never stop. I despise those shows on TV. Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives. I've never watched any of them, but just the whole idea of infidelity as "funny" turns my stomach. Sad write but I'm glad you wrote this to make people aware.

A very sad poem. I really feel for those involved. It seems that morality and marriage is dying, we read about all the immoral behavior. I know more people who are doing right than wrong. I know couples who are faithful to each-other. And, couples who are saving them-selves until marriage. Thanks for sharing your talent. Love Betty

I was married to one like him. That's why there's an X next to the word husband. Too many men and women tolerate such infidelity from their partners.

Small towns are no shield against immorality and such, believe me, having come from one with the population of less than seven hundred. I could tell you stories, starting with Doris, my Sunday School teacher.

Very unique and original This is also so sad and painful for all involved. One could feel the maddness trying to overcove her. Everything that is good and worthy we should think on those things. Is the reminder I receive and the world is lacking in a lot of that goodness to fufill that request. Ty for sharing this powerful poem.

Another original write from you Eileen ,this one is a little different
from most with the ending surprising me,a sad ending with no glimmer of hope.I believe this poem is Prose?(I am still attempting to learn the names of the different styles.)You can write so well in so many different ways and styles ALL of them excellent.I have only attempted two poems in prose, they are the hardest for me to do.My favorite line was 'Deception always bites back' those words are very powerful Eileen,I cheered at that part...brava!I believe the theme of your poem that indeed morality and marriage are dying,(sadly.)The subject of this poem is not an easy one to write on but you did it very well and you took the reader on a smooth ride through a sad and bumpy terrain.Sometimes (as your last line says) it seems like 'everything good is dying',how true that is...poetry,at least, never dies.Best wishes always to you an yours, love from,Kay.

Your poor poor friend, and those it is going to have a devastating impact...
Without love, outside Gods realm, without romance too. It can only lead to pain. Either now or when it's time to check out.

The worse day will be when no-one can differ between right and wrong.

Infidelity is a result of the loose morals in our world today. Having many partners before marriage leads to the same after marriage. One of the reasons there are so many divorces today.

This resonates soap opera ... daytime and nighttime. It is such a dirty deed of what both man and woman risk a small amount of the time it takes to consumate the act for a lifetime of pain and separation. Drama is the fabric of our lives, like it or not. Cinematic portrayal of infidelity is a popular topic for tv, movie, and the theatrical stage. I loved The Graduate. That famous line resonates from the 60s...Mrs. Robinson...are you trying to seduce me? Sorry about your friend, Eileen.

Morality seems to be in its death-bed, Eileen. Some think such a thing cn't happen in least developed countries where modernization hasn't yet touched but I tell this kind of evil affair takes place everywhere. I know of a family ruined by such heinous acts after the husband has had an affair with wife's siter and the thing went on for months secretly until pregnancy divulged the story. A deeply touhing poem. GBQ
