no wonder they have nine lives;-)

Poem Artwork

Don't know if I can make a poem out of this, but the info could be helpful so I'll try;-)

Stupid stubborn silly me
Thinking I knew best
All my adult life five hrs sleep
Didn't need more rest
Even after heart attacks
7 different surgeries and all
Even with an injured back
But lupus finally made me fall

I must be in bed before midnight
I could not believe my fate
All the time now, instead of five
I must stay in bed til eight
Many more hours through the day
In bed I 'm forced to stay
But finally I'm getting results, hooray
My fevers and pain are going away

I can see better, fuzzy head more clear
Shakes, cold sweats, weakness, disappear
How foolish to think sitting was rest;-)
It takes lying down to return the zest
So with meds, lots of water, and more sleep
No hospital,  happy tears of joy I weep
In future I will be more wise
Now I won't have to miss you guys;-)

~~*~~

I want to thank all of you for thoughts and prayers sent my way. I can't tell you how much it means to me, suffice it to say, I deeply appreciate it and love you all big time!

Make sure you get the bed, rest /sleep you need!

You've been on my mind, which is the main reason I dropped by. :-) Glad to know you're doing better.

I had to laugh at this. My doctor has chided me about my sitting up thinking I'm resting but there I am still typing away writing or something. "No, Nordette, no. Get horizontal." LOL. ~~Nordette

Hi Eileen, sorry to read about you having Lupus. And you are absolutely correct, autoimmune diseases get agravated when you wear yourself down. You must rest. Of course right now you can't do anything but rest, but in a few weeks when you feel strong again you need to make sure you don't stress yourself out by not getting enough sleep or anything else. Keep a diary of everything you do and eat, it will help you to find a trigger that causes the Lupus to flare up.

Get better soon.

Happy to have you back,
did not realize all of that,
My doc says my pain is from being too fat,
When it does this time dissipate,
More exercise I WILL GET,
Hoping to feel really great...

Sometimes there is no substitute for experience and I am so grateful that you are sharing yours with us - so perhaps you will help someone else avoid all that you've been through.

You know you are in my thoughts and prayers and I promise to take care of myself.

Yeah!!!! You're better! I am so thankful. And to be able to put it into a clever poem, Eileen. Amazing. Sleep is so important. I have finally gotten over the guilt of sleeping so much (my illness is in the lupus family) But it has paid off. I haven't had a flare-up in almost two years.

Hi Eileen, welcome back to the land of the living!
I recently read an article (much to my dismay I might add) that said we really do need 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night if we are going to live a healthy life. Our organs are on a time clock and they repair themselves during our sleep time. If we cheat on the hours we cheat on ourselves and our muscles and organs take the hit. Also, that article said that proper sleep can be a major player in maintaining proper body weight...lose weight if we are too heavy; gain if we are too thin. The other bit of "must do" information involved drinking enough water and keeping the body hydrated. Dehydration can cause the blood to thicken and thereby make the heart work harder trying to move the blood through our circulatory system. We lose water from our lungs with each breath we exhale, especially those of us who live in a dry climate, my physician said here in New Mexico the amount is about a half gallon a day lost through the lungs..YIKES!! Muscle cramps are often caused by dehydration as is cardio arrhythmia, wrinkling or sagging of the skin, headache, confusion or loss of memory, irritability, constipation (sorry, had to mention it) and other assorted physical problems we often pass off as part of the aging process. For all the ladies who have hot flashes, you are at as high of risk for dehydration as a 3rd degree burn victim. (scary thought, eh?) Most of our body is able to use recycled liquids, those being other things we drink besides water that are purified through our kidneys, but not so with the brain. The brain is suspended in about 8 pounds of water and accepts only water that has not been recycled and needs it to recirculate that water at least once every 24 hours if it is to perform correctly...how much you ask? around 8 pounds of water per day, that is about a half-gallon, two liters to the rest of the world...so drink fresh water everyone!!! Sooo with all this said, I am glad to hear that you have decided to take better care of yourself and stop thinking that you are invincible. None of us is going to live forever, that is a fact, but if we can live a healthy life until the end, it will be well worth the effort to get enough sleep and remain hydrated. A daily walk and a vitamin pill every day (taken with food, of course) couldn't hurt either! ;)
It is nice to have you back, Eileen and thank you for the update.
Take care,
Sherry
