Like an arrow shot from heaven the hawk descended landing on the roof across from me I thought it would go through the roof it had come with such force, so beautiful it lifted off almost immediately back up to where it had come from so high almost out of sight
Red hawks usually descend only into nests to catch their prey, baby birds they circle high, until they spot what they want, they make their dive causing a furor as all the lesser birds try to scare the hawk off by diving into it only rarely do the birds scare it away
This is how some mortals operate and those they swoop down and dally with usually wind up defeated or even dead the sad thing is they keep getting away with it with the hawk it's natural, they must eat but humans do it out of a sick need for power to wear as trophies, of all their conquests
Powerful and creative write Eileen, in my line of work I run across more of these human predators everyday, very sad indeed!

Beautiful picture. I see hawks all day long in the mountain wash behind my home. Good analogy too. Predators are where you least expect to find them and where one SHOULD feel safe and protected, in one's home and their faith. Sad world.

Yes, well, the animal world is on a balance that I doubt most humans will ever understand, though it seems like you do. I LLLLLLLOVED the photo, I love watching hawks here, too, flying and swooping.

In nature, pecking orders are established intra-species, often in not so gentle ways. When it comes to inter-species competition cruelty has little recognition nor bounds, other than a rare outcropping of empathy. Civilization is the nurturing of empathy.
