Poem Artwork

The light of day was waning
my heart was feeling cold
with the darkness gaining
loves story still untold

Lest I be caught in twilight
forever and a day
I must find ways to requite
the light that goes astray

So hungry is the corner dark
that does not get the beam
It yearns to see at least a spark
but sun witholds it's gleam

Then dark descends to cover all
light hasn't got a chance
til at some point the two must meet
to do a mating dance

When dance is over comes the fight
will stygian have its way
or will the force field of the light
be strong enough to sway

Soon  time comes to illuminate
it appears clear and bright
yet still in corners adumbrate
a  shadow of the  night

Just when we think night has its way
Alas the light  begins its day

This is my new favorite of yours. Most eloquent, beautiful poem--thank you. :)

I love the times when the change occurs as though light and dark were guards switching shifts. Sunrises and sunsets seem to bring promise of the beauty of day or of night, either seems to be a warm blessing. Beautiful poetry, Eileen.
Take care,
Sherry

Drat! I hate it when that happens. Fine form. As always.

Oooo yes... I just love the twilight and that end-of-day tussle twixt light and dark. Don't know quite why, but it is the summertime periods of slooooooooow lengthening shadows and nights that are barely dark at all that this poetic dance reminds me of: "liquid darkness", I call it. The last couplet was a "twist" for me and made me smile; made me think Cinderella, coaches and pumpkins, dammit!! :)) K xx

Oh, how I've missed your ease with internal rhyme, Eileen. With this poem, I realized something else: I often 'hear' this when it isn't, in fact, even there... such is your skill in creating "word sounds" that fill my imagination. The last two lines are among my fav's. katy xox

The ultimate fight, between dark and light--nice metaphor. Hope that fever has subsided.

Life is a battle between the darkness and the light but as Christ has said I am the way, the truth, and the light and with Him to guide us all darkness can be dispelled.

A beam of pure light shown through to all of us just days ago and now darkness intrudes again. Seems we're either chasing our shadows or they are chasing us. But can't have one without the other and the sun will soon appear. Beautiful write, Eileen, as is the music...
