My  Life reminds me of a fire
One that started slow then went wild
Before being tamed it ran rampant
Causing some minor damage
Enough to  scar  some landscape

So many times the fire was banked
Life became like dying embers
Waiting impatiently to be rekindled
There were times it was revived
Though never with a full roaring flame

Until it became more like a slow burner
That you  put a kettle on to keep warm
The kind that  will only simmer
But will never come to a full boil
The surprise is how it stays lukewarm

When the fire threatens to go out completely
Like smouldering coals that can't be cooked  on
That's when ennui threatens to kill  verve
Needing more  coals with a good poke and stir
Unless one  decides to  let it burn out to ashes

I have refueled since I wrote this;-)

Sounds like an adventurous time behind you and who knows what might be ahead. Just be careful when you refuel, too much could be too much :-). Great poetry!

After reading this I started recharging myself with the fuel I extracted from Eileen's well of wisdom. It is like supplying a new consignment of coal to embers that were nearly reduced to ashes. GBQ.

A very honest write Eileen, impressed by the lines

My Life reminds me of a fire
One that started slow then went wild

There were times it was revived
Though never with a full roaring flame

and your penultimate stanza.. a strange feeling in this one.. it captures me somehow.. *sigh*

Ebb and Flow!

When people continually give, like you, and so many of the wonderful people do in this Den, there does come times when one needs to recharge.

It's OK not to be on-fire all the time, if we were we would burn out too quickly.

We can give only so much before we need to retreat and refuel. I pray Eileen that your gift, and your life, will always hover between tepid and red hot and will never get cold.

Great write
Richard

We keep alive the flame of life by diversity and energy towards our committed causes and goals .
To stay focussed on our objectives, we need intention fuelled by clarity and perseverance to be successful in our endeavours..

If we don't "Fuel the Fire" life becomes absolutely monotonous, doesn't it? I believe that the physical world is a mirror of the spiritual world and the fact that no fire can burn continually without being stoked is just as real in the spirit as it is in the natural. I love the way you wrote this. The different phases of the "fire" was brilliantly wrote. And the threat of boredom zapping your energy is one I can relate to well. Too well at times .. lol.. :)

You're far from the burn out stage; your embers have a full glow.
