Poem Artwork

To come upon the naked trees
While walking in their fallen leaves

And feel my heart is just as bare
For your warmth is no longer near

To know of how the branches feel
While thoughts of you in my head reel

Recalling scenes of yesteryear
When roses bloomed in weather fair

As scents of our love filled the air
From sultry passions savoir faire

White winter snow will soon replace
The vibrant colors of falls face

Perhaps by summer you'll return
Bringing the glow of suns new burn

This is lovely, wistful, Eileen. My favorite lines,
"And feel my heart is just as bare
For your warmth is no longer near"
Well said, my friend. Excellent imagery.

CJ

I get a little obsessed with autumn…write numerous poems about it as well, but I really appreciated your clean, sensible choice of words here, "...suns new burn" against the backdrop of a naked season. ~LNNS

Every couplet forms a link in a garland that just speaks of completeness. Effortless and seamless in both rhythm and rhyme. This has poetic resonance and gestalt, Eileen... a tree-poem with deep roots bonded into fertile soil. I have hitherto been not such a great fan of autumn, but this year, in my new environment at the coast and on heathland, I am absolutely loving it and a willing convert! :)) And your poetry on the subject compounds its delicate and fragile beauty. As with Taylor's Man In The Moon write, this makes me itch to also write personifying trees. Soul-stirring, TY K xx
