Without a Dream

In the lonely night
he waited
hoping the dream
would take shape
restlessness was
creeping in
nothing seemed
to be happening
these were the
worst times

having given up
everything for
the dream
preferring to
 live alone
in his own realm
if he couldn't
conjure up the
vibrant images
manipulate its
circumstance
the fear in him
caused acute
palpatations and
persperations
which gave him
cold sweats

He never had
to be alone
he always had
his vision
the aging process
was cheating him
out of memory
like a thief in
the night
come to steal
his creativity
he cursed the
usurper trying
to take control
of his mind
He swore he'd
never allow it
but then when
 he'd awaken

not knowing
what day it was
or where the
time had gone
and worst of all
trying to recall
what dream he
had been in
but there was
nothing there
when that
happened
the lonliness was
overwhelming
just the thought
that he might have
 to face reality
was earth shattering
to him he dreaded
even thinking about it

Awesome imagery
crowded his mind
he knew he had
once again found
the dream and was
able to control it
his fingers flew
over the page as he
wrote it down in
his journal, so
excited he was
almost frothing
at the mouth,
finally he stopped
writing lay down
went to sleep
when he awoke
he reached for his
journal all excited
the page was empty
then he knew
he cried out with
anguish,no one heard
he was all alone
without a dream

I can't even imagine how I would feel if this were to happen to me...I know several people that this did happen to, but the way you portray it here...is even more impacting!
Sad, but very real write!
Excellent piece ET...so glad I came back to play catch up!

A powerful and depthful write. Being alone can cause disturbing thoughts sometimes to an aging figure. Especially when memory comes and goes. Sometimes losing touch with reality, thinking it all was a dream. Fabulous work.

Eileen,

Very sad write, unfortunately there are too many that have or are in this state. You have brought the reality of it to the surface here.

to live alone without a dream is indeed a tragic state to be in ... the character you've created has lost or perhaps never had, a spiritual affinity with his own creative essence, so his dreams could not come into being ... a powerfully tragic event you've meticulously quilled ...

Surely a sad state of affairs you paint in this sobering write Sugar Chum. My goodness did I relate!

I have personally worked diligently towards my dreams for decades and still have not realized them yet in their fullness. There, too often, is a war that stands against the fruition of what we purpose to do.

I often wonder if I will have to relegate myself to just seeing my most cherishable dreams from afar. I wonder at what point in time we just quit? Captivating work chum that hits so close to home in this writer.

Light and Wisdom and Love ...

Dark and dreary. . . .
But a fact of life for many.
When storms are forming
May joy come in the morning.

We all live through our dreams, but if we have no life beyond our dreams, we have little to share and no one seems to care. Awake time needs to be spent kindling relationships if we wish for anyone to take an interest or see the wisdom, in our dreams. I am sure this will hit spot on for many, Eileen.
Take care,
Sherry

Poweful poetry that may ring a bell with some and for others who live in a stupor their minds gone if they dream no one will ever know.

Sad story and poignantly told. Why does that muse niggle in the wee hours, one has to ask. I've one like that too. Maddening.

Enjoyed...
