Had an unexpected opportunity to visit a monastery for a few days retreat. The poem is just a poem;-)
~*~
Surrounded by natural untouched beauty Where wildlife abounded freely Thoughts came unbidden questioning reality As if controlled by a stronger power
Up at dawn on a foggy morn She walked the penitents path The Monastery set in sculpted landscape On 200 acres of woodlands
Her mind wandered through the labryinth Of mystical illusion only to find more confusion What is real cannot always be clearly defined While the unknown can take shape in the mind
Placing a question mark on the absolutes As well as the hidden roots, like seeing an image in fog exagerrated out of proportion causing doubt as to its origin
We fabricate pictures in our minds from unknown sources, so real they can become as familiar as people and things we live amongst in our daily lives, yet they are foreign,made-up from our own imagination
Therefore it is not unwise to ask what is real and what is imaginary, but do we always know?
the truth is there is not distinction between "imaginary" and "real" ... i believe what it all comes down to is, what is actual and what is fabricated ...
well written and thoughtful poem ...
No we don't always know Eileen,
that is the beauty of life.
Dreams and absolutes...what is real?
...imagine them as illusions or not.
perhaps reality is an illusion?
Fantastic work, Eileen. One of your (many!) bests I think, exhibiting your exquisite powers of analysis and thought coupled with your dextrous use of imagery and language. I personally think that objective reality is very distinct from subjective reality. Where emotions are both the fuel and the source of reality then we are all more or less bound to inhabit planets of our own, population one: me! The tree might be 30 yards from the car: objective reality. How you, I and all those beneath me on the page here see, think and feel about that will be where our differing realities lie. Therefore there are as many interpretations as there are real bodies! And do I always know what I am talking about? Objective reality says a resounding NOOOOOOOOOO!! :)) Love Kate xx
Your visit was certainly worthwhile Eileen if this wonderful poem was the result. I do love the philosophic element but you touch on something I find so very real. The imagination can be as creative and destructive thing and it can allow us to question the difference between what is real and what isn't. It can totally distort reality sometimes or can be alluded to so often that we come to believe what is not real. What a marvelous job you have done on this one.

Taylor

Not only superb, but I've just done the same, at worth abbey, a Benedictine monastery, love it so much, I'm going back on sat for a day and weekly too. Made friends with a nun who has offered to take me... Very rich in medative and contemplation..
Have you ever read Anthony De Mello, or John Main?
I feel I relate to this that mere words don't suffice...
Gosh, what a perfect picture of serenity and calm! Feel better, just reading it. Thank you for the needed refreshment! As for the poem, it is perfection. We both know the Answer to life's challenges. :)
Wow! Love the photograph with the fog rollin in, just magnificent! Great spiritual like story that I could relate to. True, sometimes what we imagine over time can become real, though it is not, fantastic write. Hope you had much fun and found time to relax too.....
You have raised some good questions. I have just read one of your stories, "Shapeshifter" that is also filled with imaginations. Wonderful write on both!!!
Quite nice Eileen.
One man's reality could be another's fantasy.
or another's worst nightmare.
guess it depends on which side of the fence you are on.

Something quite different from you, Eileen and I love it . . . Profound statemts abound within this self-searching poem . . . Such as "What is real cannot always be clearly defined / While the unknown can take shape in the mind."
Really nice words Eileen and I have to say that no we can't always tell the difference, I have often had the children now as they've grown come and ask me about things which they were sure of as kids and I believe we all question things through life. Thank you for sharing.

Nice write...it is when we lose our imagination...that reality be sometime lost...so I believe.

How exciting for you, and what an opportunity.
What we call reality is the illusion; what we call illusion, is the reality. Beautiful thoughts you've penned.
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
