Poem Artwork

Would that the day could last
but die it must, for night to live
if thus this is it, living to repeat
a death with no retreat,or am I
trying in some mediocre mood, to
relieve myself of banal brood
for boredom makes the day grow
long, and ennui isn't a favorite song
how trite of me to mock the night
and in same breath blame the day
that has no choice but to give way
for time demands the hands to move
in a regulated twenty four hour groove
and I can't think of  any other way
for earths sun cycle to complete a day

Time exists only within the mind of man. Cycles exist as a method of God's plans, naturally. Bless the day, bless the night. Bless everything moved by his hand. This is a very well crafted, rhetorical poem. Jon Michael Willey

Incredibly beautiful...I have reached a point over the last few years to see how quickly the time goes...there are moments when it truly scares me...the reason why it's so important to live each day to the fullest.

Time demands the hands to move - alas, for each and every one of us, so we should cherish each and every moment that we can.

Eileen, my grandfather told me long ago before he died.
He lived to be 105. "The day last forever - the years fly by."
He didn't make any sense to me till I got older. I think we
should just cherish each day we're given.

ET, I just wonder after your words in this poem...you saying that if the clock hands were circling anticlockwise we would getting younger instead of wrinkled and decrepit?
Oh girl! I love that idea, tonight I will feel younger already.

Delicious nights can be. I love looking out the "picture" window at night and seeing the very few souls on the streets. Quiet. Folks getting ready (inside) for the next day. Next morning. Day must give way as all things. Interesting write.

Yet when we look at life as if we are living our final moments, things become fresh. I've just seen a beaut of a white woodpecker.
Every second is pure gold, even the rich are only give 24 hrs to spend each day. Yet who are the rich, those with wealth that they need to live in domestic prisons, or the bloke walking through the park, catching trout, kicking leaves, and whistling...

The never-ending cycle of life and death never forgives the pettiness of mere mortals and like the ouroboros, it is continually devouring themselves for reasons left up to the old ones to judge . . .

I am so lonely at night after death of Tom I cry lots at night. It has only been since Aug 07 but I feel so alone at night. Your poem says why night has to come and I should like it better, but I will try to take your advice. I know night is needed as well as day. It;s just so hard to get through and I am always glad with the daylight. and going out.

Boredom seems to disappear, this poem sounds (and looks)
so "full" and the whole cycle is not slow and tedious, but
quick and complete.
