a love affair

the day was drizzly damp and chill
of peoples prattle i had my fill
so home i went to be alone, and
do with myself whatever i chose
first an exchange into comfy clothes
soon i was curled in my favorite chair
with pad and pen i had a love affair
what is it about poetry that so grips
the mind, that it becomes top priority
no matter where you are your thoughts
become phrases you have to write down
like an addict who must have a fix
words always pushing in this poets bag of tricks

it does become compulsive at times doesn't it Eileen -- this addiction is a good one -- leaving emotions to run about with joy -- you summed the emotion perfectly and poetically Eileen -- love, joy and peace to you my friend -- JMW

lol. I just wrote something on this topic, too, Eileen. Great minds.... I've often thought of writing this way. I've wondered if it's normal to ignore my hubby and write like the wind. Well done:)

Beautifully expressed thoughts
writing is a love affair
once you pick up a pen and paper and
write your first thoughts from that day on
writing becomes your addiction!!
Brilliant write Eileen..
Sorry I have not been commenting just been sick!

ET,
So well said for all word junkies and smiths everywhere; this 'writing business' is indeed a compulsion, an obsession, always dominant always uppermost in the mind while cutting grass or walking the dog or playing cards or lying awake at night, especially while lying awake. Excellent wtite!

you're so right... it is a love affair: passionate, obsessional and unyielding...yet comforting, soothing and intensely personal/intimate as your change of clothes and curled writing position indicate. What perplexes me, though, is that there is so often a gap in the ability to communicate inspiration to pen and paper in the ways in which it is first received; I guess that, too, fits in with your analogy of an absorbing love affair, wild and wayward in its expression! :)) xx

Oh, do I know the feeling! Wonderful word here, Eileen. Best part of a love affair is the climax; when it's all out htere in the open, and admired :-)

And then the ink runs out, and I begin to shout, what's this all about, would it matter much, that bit on paper scratch, would it really , I've been asking the same question, what drives us, if it's an addiction, maybe we need therapy, lets see, we got a resident shrink doctor right here, me thinks his name is Regis, see he's not driven, he knows how to control his inate instincts, just kiddin Regis. Bless you all, and Hugs! Jasmin Horst

You are so kind and gentle when you roam about as a poet, but, I don't wish to meet Tiger Lily on a shadowed back alley.

It is good that you can so easily have a love affair with your muse, Eileen. I find mine rather "distant" most of the time. Great poem. Thank you. Love and best wishes to you,

I think we have the priority because as soon as it comes its gone...at least for me...I have lost more poems than I have written. Wonderful write Eileen and special because a little bit of all of us. Love and hugs, Bonnie
