We are innundated by things.that
flood our minds with info
that overwhelms defenses,
overpowering our senses

things to do,things to try things
for free things to buy, things to
amuse, things to wear, things to
abuse things to fear,

haunting taunting compelling things
foolish ghoulish,amorphous things
sexually seductive things
violent destructive things

All these things exploding into paths
going in all directions, vying for our
attention, keeping our minds totally
occupied,until our brains become fried

I like free things, but they rarely are. Seductive is nice but rarer still. Fortunately men are equipped with a nothing box to which they can retreat when the overload becomes too much. I suppose focus would work to keep it all out but the concentration level required fries the brain. Catch 22 can't win........Beer. Patrick

Maybe it would be better if we were back in the day where none of these modern conveniences were invented. Back in the day where the life span of people were thirty-five or forty. Back in the day when people worked in sweat shops with no way to get health care except from the overworked and very much underpaid doctor who made house calls. Sorry to be so pessimistic, Eileen, but we are who we are, and live in the era where we live and I guess it just isn't good enough for some. Me, I am grateful for life and for the modern conveniences. I would have been dead ten years ago without them. As much as we are suppose to know and understand in this modern age, we can still be very much uninformed. Take the last presidential election, a con man pulled the wool over everybody's eyes.

I like, you lined them up and shot them down, great poetry to say so much, wrapped in a beautiful word play.
Things Eileen, the world is drowning in them, it's killing us, George, has no money he says, that's a good way to stop having things, he is a way ahead, but on the other hand, the worlds totally false economy is build on things, most of them we don't really need.
We cut down trees for exvample, to make paper, to record many fold all the things we don't need, I think it was better to have that tree, it helps our breath, etc, Hugs! Jasmin Horst

Mush, they've turned my mind to mush. You need to get this thing in order for that thing to work and this thing will make you young...and it goes on and on. In fact I think I just may go to Disney it's free. lol. Not. Wonderful, excellent poem Liz

Yes and one of those things is up above, to the right of your write. And when the ad popped up, I was sorely distracted. The mind used to have time to absorb and digest what was coming at it. Now it's being assaulted and you have to schedule in solitude like you schedule an appointment. Should not be. Shut off the tv, turn off the computer, sit in silence or get out in nature and just BE. How true, Eileen!

I hear you.
I keep saying, "Please, not one more thing."
But no such luck.
Hang in there.
