A night half passed
And still I do not mourn
This lack of sleep,
For you fill my
Waking mind
With thoughts
Of loveliness.
I see you again
Walking along the shore,
Jeans rolled up,
The water lapping
At your strong,
Muscular calves
As you laugh and cavort,
Splashing water my way
Where I stay dry
Upon the sand.
I see you again
As you return
From months deployed,
Holding your arms out
For me,
So happy to be home.
I see you again
As you hold
Our newborn child,
Still wet from my body,
Tears running down your cheeks
With joy.
There are no nightmares
This half passed night
Only dreams,
Happy dreams,
And rich promises
Of many such dreams
To come.
