Moonlight filters softly
Through the window sheers,
Casting gentle shadows
Around the room and
Over our bed.
Held fast
Against your body
I can feel your every breath,
And I smile
As I listen to your
Barely there snore,
Endearing, yet,
I'm grateful
It isn't louder.
Today we celebrated
The first
Of our many years
Together,
Spent loving,
And laughing,
And grimacing
As we tasted
The top of
Our wedding cake,
Kept safely
In the freezer,
Only to find it
Stale from months
In the cold.
We shared our memories
That brought us to
This moment and
Reflected
On our hopes
For our life ahead.
We've grown so much
This year,
Matured in ways
We couldn't have
Imagined
When we exchanged
Our vows,
And as we've grown
So has our love
Grown deeper,
More profound.
As I watch you sleep
I still see
The young man who
Waited for me
At the head of
The aisle,
But I also see
The fulfilling of
The man you promised
To become.
What alignment of stars
Brought two strangers together
So their hearts could
Entwine?
And once again
I hear, as if
It were just today,
What God has brought together
Let no man
Put asunder.
I lay my head
Upon your shoulder,
And as you hold me
So I hold you,
And very soon
I join you,
Falling deeply,
Gratefully,
And contentedly
Into slumber.
