Sometimes
Since spring,
Once darkness
Has fallen,
I glimpse a shadow
From the corner of my eye,
But when I turn my head
It isn't there.
At first it
Made me nervous,
Even a little frightened,
But something began
To make me suspect
That it was you
With a new way
To be with me
And, frankly,
I thought I must be
Nuts!
But over time
I began to relax
And look forward
To the shadow's appearances,
Even smiling a greeting
When it appeared,
Always from
The corner of
My eye.
Then recently,
Someone who believes
That not all things
Are physically tangible
Told me
That my true love
Was always nearby,
Unseen,
Wanting to be with me
As much as I wanted to be
With him,
And I knew
It could only be you.
